The 12th annual Avignon/New York Film Festival closed out Sunday with a screening of 2006 fest honoree John Turturro's Romance and Cigarettes, but not before bestowing a handful of hardware on a few of its newer selections. Daniel Eberle's drama JailCity claimed the prize for Best U.S Feature, while Zakia Tahri and Ahmed Bouchaala's For the Love of God -- a glimpse at fractious Muslim communities in France -- won the award for Best European Feature.

In the documentary category, Joshua Faudem's suicide bomber feature Blues by the Beach took first prize, while the short film winners were Ken Kimmelman's Hot Afternoons Have Been in Montana (U.S. category) and Matteo Minetto's Intimità (european category). Big ups to the winners, and hopefully Turturro shared some of that decade's worth of wine that come along with being a friend of Avignon. I mean, a trophy's great and everything, but you can't pair it with your dinner. -- S.T. VanAirsdale
