I guess I would file this announcement under "Public Appearances I Didn't See Coming in a Million Years": Kirk Douglas is slated to drop by the 92nd Street Y on March 20 for a discussion with Reel Pieces moderator and Columbia undergraduate film studies director Annette Insdorf. The enduring Hollywood icon, only a few months removed from his 90th birthday (and the suitably legendary press release that accompanied it), will be in town promoting his new memoir Let’s Face It as well as imparting his insights on surviving a helicopter crash, a massive stroke and "contemporary events, issues and film." Stories for all seasons, to be sure, and God willing, at least one anecdote from the set of Paths of Glory.
The program starts at 8 p.m., tickets are $25-$50 and can be picked up at the Y's Web site. Fair warning: This will sell out.
