One Night Only at IFC Center: An Evening of Oppression, Torture and Death, With Your Host Gaspar Noe

I know the first week after launching a new site is not the best time to have a bad week, but I hope I can make it up to you with news that has my jaw disengaged from my face:

Gaspar Noe (I Stand Alone, Irreversible) will open the New York program of On Set With French Cinema on October 10 with a special presentation of Pier Pasolini's controversial film Salo before a screening of his own debut feature, I Stand Alone.

Now, I don't know what sissy decided a New York audience couldn't handle Salo and Irreversible into the same program -- I know I only take my art house double features with shit eating and anal rape -- but under the circumstances, I think I can make an exception. I mean, how genius is Noe? And how do you think that phone call went? "Um, bonjour, Monsieur Noe? We are programming this year's On Set series and want to see if you'd like to host a screening. You have ideas for us, non? Monsieur Noe? Hello? Why the laughter?"

Anyway, the bomb drops next Tuesday, Oct. 10, at IFC Center, with Noe on the scene. You will be checked for weapons and projectiles at the door.

Oh, and Jacques Audiard and Anne Fontaine are coming in November, but Christ they're boring.
