Screening Gotham: Scott Rudin Now Mistreating Trades

Some of today's movie news of note from around New York:

--On those demoralizing days when I think I'm the only reporter to whom the biz could be so irretrievably heartless, I will forthwith remember Anne Thompson. The Variety scribe writes that New York's worst boss, producer Scott Rudin, and his publicist held off her interview request just long enough to get today's NY Times mini-profile burnished to a fine gloss. "So it goes," sighs Thompson. Such subtle, stinging venom. That's why I love her.

--Gawker notes that Harvey Weinstein is flying his gang to Cannes economy class. Fat jokes and Halston second-guessing ensue in the comments. I wish I could summon the imagination to join in or even be surprised. (Via The IFC Blog)

--Speaking of imagination, Anthony Kaufman has none.

--This poll soliciting your favorite guest hosts on Ebert & Roeper inspires me to a new cause: I want to be an Ebert sub. Write Roeper, your local TV syndicate, your Congressman -- back me up on this. I couldn't do any worse than John Mellencamp.
